After four games unbeaten an away trip to runners-up Broadwell was always
going to be difficult add in to the pot a few suspensions and a couple of
players away and it was going to be extremely difficult! Broadwell took
the lead inside the opening 2 minutes, Craig Lewis scoring his 32nd goal of the
season with a delightful free kick. Shaun Meakin then had a golden
opportunity to equalise however his shot missed the target when one on one with
the home stopper. The hosts extended the lead on 34 minutes with Phil
Delaney heading home from a corner. After the interval Albion started
brightly and got just reward when Jake Burns dangerous delivery found its way in
the back of the net between a confused defender and goalkeeper. Steve
Belfitt added two further goals in the second period to give Broadwell a
comfortable 4-1 victory. Despite the victory Albion can take great heart
for the future considering the average age of their 10 outfield players was just
20 years old, possibly a Northern Senior League record?............
26th
April 2007
Once again against relegated Viney, Brockworth produced an inept display,
however we did manage to secure all three points. A 2-1 victory in the
Forest epitomised a workmanlike victory as opposed to recent promising
performances. Albion took the lead in the 56th minute, Shaun Price half
volleying home from a Anthony Keene corner kick. Parity was restored
within 10 minutes as a good free kick delivery caused Andrew Moody problems
between the Albion sticks and Kevin Averis was on hand to convert from close
range. Albion continued to dominate and hold the majority of possession
without creating too many clear cut chances. Victory was assured in the
76th minute, Chris Skinner scoring from close range after the home defence
failed to clear Keene's corner.
21st
April 2007
Another good performance saw Brockworth 1st XI chalk up their 3rd
consecutive league win and banish any relegation fears that may have still been
lingering. Goals from Shaun Bennett (2) and a first for Craig Fairley
enabled us to continue to strive for a top half finish. The 3rd XI were
defeated 6-3 away at Tivoli Rovers who moved in to 2nd spot in the table with
this win. Our 4th XI succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at home to Coaley Reserves
which almost extinguishes any hopes of survival. As well as winning as
soon as possible results are also required to go in our favour to beat the drop.
17th April 2007
A midweek fixture away to Kingswood is the last thing most sides need
when they are embroiled in a relegation battle however Brockworth once again dug
deep when most needed. The hosts still looking for a top five finish
started the game slowly albeit trying to play an attractive passing game.
Albion took the lead after 14 minutes, keeper Chris Skinner launched a long punt
downfield which evaded the hosts back four, Shaun Meakin latched on to the ball
and splendidly lobbed the home stopper. The remainder of the half saw both
sides create semi opportunities without really threatening to score. In
the second period Albion found themselves under considerable pressure at times,
however a combination of great defending, poor decision making by Kingswood and
an element of luck ensured we managed to remain unscathed. The turning
point of the game came after 77 minutes, Anthony Workman's delightful lob from
30 yards giving us a 2-0 lead and more importantly taking the momentum out of
our opponents. Kingswood did manage to notch a consolation in the 89th
minute, Barry Dibden's neat header from a flag kick reducing the deficit.
This 2-1 victory saw Albion move out of the relegation zone and provide a solid
foundation for the visit of Cheltenham Civil Service on Saturday.
14th April 2007
Brockworth produced one of their performances of the season to defeat
high flying Sharpness 2-0 on their own patch. A sweltering day produced a
rock hard pitch which was the cause of many over hit passes. At the break
the score remained dead locked at 0-0 with Anthony Workman producing the only
meaningful shot when he hit the post from 20 yards with a thumping effort.
Albion took the lead midway through the second period, Liam Mayo's powerful
midfield drive saw him one on one with the goalkeeper. His initial effort
was saved however the ball rebounded back kindly to Mayo who made no mistake
with his second effort. As the Sharks searched for an equaliser, Workman
got his reward for a terrific all round performance, prodding home after 81
minutes. Once again the hosts rallied but Albions rearguard stood firm to
take all 3 points. Paul Dominguez starred for the 2nds hitting a hat-trick
against FC Barometrics, Jake Burns notched the other in a comfortable 4-0
victory. The 3rd XI played in a bizarre game which saw the referee award 5
penalties in total (of which we were the recipients of 2!). The final
score saw Charlton Kings beat us 5-3. The 4th XI went down to Champions
elect AC Royals 5-0 however Manager Rob Morgan will be looking towards this
weekends fixture with Coaley Rovers with more purpose. Already billed as
the £50m game this fixture is likely to decide who survives the drop from the
league.
11th April 2007
Another display of woeful finishing meant that Albion 1st XI had to
settle for a point against relegation threatened Huntley. Marc Matthews as
usual was the main architect of danger for the hosts and Chris Skinner's 3rd
minute save ensured the scores remained level. This only lasted until the
21st minute when a long free kick up field was met by the head of Matthew Abbott
to give Huntley the break they were desperately searching for. This seemed
to spark Albion in to life and a reply was not far away. Shaun Bennett
lashed home the equaliser after 34 minutes after neat interplay throughout the
Brockworth midfield. The second half was all Albion as we probed for a
winner however numerous chances went begging for Shaun Meakin, Shaun Bennett and
Mike Evans.
10th April 2007
Brockworth 2nd XI travelled to mid table Gala Wilton for this end of
season midweek fixture and demolished their opponents 5-0. In all
seriousness it could have been double figures however a combination or erratic
shooting and a tendency to step off the gas ensured the score line remained
fairly modest. Albion went 1-0 in front when Ryan Fairley's effort was
deflected past the home stopper. Further goals followed from top scorer
Craig Fairley(2), Rich Driver and substitute Colm Evans.
7th April 2007
Only 2 sides in action this weekend and both were beaten quite
convincingly. The 1st XI hosted title chasing Tuffley Rovers to Churchdown
and found themselves 3-0 within 25 minutes. A half roasting and a 2nd half
revival saw Albion have more than enough chances to draw or even win this
fixture. However due to a combination of poor finishing and some good
saves the score remained at 3-0 to Tuffley. Our 4th XI were beaten 4-0 by
AC Royals who are chasing their quest for promotion from Stroud Division 6.
31st March
2007
The 1st XI suffered an extremely disappointing result losing to
struggling Cam Bulldogs 1-0. A tight game with little real action was
settled by former Dursley stalwart Dave Trinder who notched the only goal of the
game after Mark Mulraney's slip left him clean through. Trinder made no
mistake scoring after 81 minutes. Albion rallied for the last 10 minutes
but unfortunately could not breach the hosts rearguard. Our 3rd XI also
fell to lowly opposition losing away to Elmbridge Old Boys 2-1. The 4ths
battle to beat the drop continued earning a point at home against Stroud
Harriers.
24th March
2007
Albion 1st XI dominated their high flying opponents Sharpness but in the
end had to settle for a point. After a fairly lifeless first half Liam
Mayo's 54th minute 20 yard volley gave us a deserved lead. However credit
to the Sharks who kept plugging away and eventually whilst playing 4 men up
front were rewarded from a set play in the 81st minute. Our 2nds had an
extremely poor result drawing away to Bourton Rovers who had not picked up a
point all season. After Craig Fairley and Craig Parkes gave us a 2-0 lead
the hosts scored twice in the last 20 minutes to secure a point. Tivoli
beat our 3rd XI by 2-0 in a feisty encounter in Cheltenham and finally the 4th
XI's good run continue as they picked up a battling point against Wotton Rovers
3rd XI.
17th March
2007
Three wins out of four this weekend for the Albion with only the 1st XI
defeated. An away trip to high flyers Bishops Cleeve was the fixture but
only a strike in the 92nd minute separated the sides. After last weeks
shocking show against Bourton Rovers the 1st XI managed to salvage some
credibility. Craig Fairley(2) was again on hand to help the 2nd XI to
victory when they travelled to Cheltenham Saracens III. Craig Parkes also
got on the score sheet. Steve Stennett also scored a double as our 3rd XI
emerged victorious at home over Saracens 4th XI. After such a torrid start
to the campaign the 4XI have now given themselves a great platform to escape
relegation, victory over Ebley Omega Reserves has given Rob Morgan's young
troops plenty of hope.
10th March
2007
Bourton Rovers secured all three points after being the recipients of
several gift wrapped goals. With the contest only 2 minutes old the
visitors were awarded a penalty after Shaun Tout was adjudged to have handled
inside the area. The resulting penalty was smashed home. The score
remained 1-0 at half time and Brockworth then dominated the opening 20 minutes
of the 2nd period without capitalising. Two further errors ensured Rovers
leapfrogged Albion in the table. Our 2nds somehow contrived to draw 4-4
with Hi-Tech rangers after leading 4-0 with only 30 minutes remaining, Craig
Fairley(2), Craig Parkes and the best of the bunch from Jake Burns got us off to
a flying start. However several individual errors and lapses in
concentration meant the points were shared. Albion 3rd XI were victorious
in their away fixture at Naunton Park, goals from Luke McChristie and Darren
Lowe (2) ensured the points. Finally the 4th XI despite a fine performance
away at Victoria Celtic returned empty handed. John Bassett opened the
scoring for Albion midway through the first half and the score remained this way
until the hosts equalised in the 74th minute. A further goal 6 minutes
from time gave Celtic all three points.
3rd March
2007
Tewkesbury Town travelled to Albion 3rd XI which was the only fixture to
get the better of the recent foul weather. The visitors let their
intentions be known hitting the post from a well worked free kick after only 2
minutes in to the contest. Town's dominance soon told and led 2-0 at the
interval. The 2nd period was a much closer contest and only the referees
intervention disallowed Chris Hill's equaliser in the 64th minute. The
game fizzled out in the end with the visitors settling for the 3 points and
Albion unable to breach the table toppers rearguard.
24th
February 2007
Brockworth 1st XI entertained Cinderford Town in a quickly arranged
friendly as both sides games fell victim to the continuing poor weather.
Despite The Foresters being without a few key players namely Richard Kear, Will
Steadman and Daryl Addis they still took a 2-0 lead at half time.
Brockworth had several good chances in the 2nd half and deservedly pulled a goal
back through Shaun Bennett's deft lob beating the oncoming Matt Bath.
Overall a good workout for both sides who have suffered considerably through the
weather over the last couple of months. Our 3rd XI picked up a valuable 3
points in their efforts to avoid relegation from Cheltenham Division 4 with an
excellent 3-0 victory at Cheltenham Civil Service III.
17th
February 2007
The 1st XI once again fell foul to the weather however all the other
sides were in action. First up the 2nd's who travelled to Northleach Town
in a Cheltenham League Division 2 encounter. Craig Fairley(2), Shaun
Bennett and Craig Parkes ensured that we returned with all three points after
securing a 4-3 victory. Our 3rd XI held promotion chasing Charlton Rovers
reserves to a 3-3 draw in a topsy turvy game. Trailing 2-0 at the half
time break we managed to get ourselves in to a 3-2 lead courtesy of goals via
Stu, Aidan and Ryan Pearce. However a lapse in concentration in injury
time enabled the visitors to score and the spoils were shared. In Stroud
League Division 6 it has been a long time coming but our 4th's picked up their
2nd win of a long campaign against Charfield III's. A 2-0 victory will
hopefully raise morale for the final run in of the season.
10th
February 2007
The recent bad weather played havoc with the fixture list again this
weekend with only the 3rds in action in Cheltenham League Division 4. A
trip to league leaders Whaddon United Reserves was on the menu today and a
credible 0-0 was accomplished.
23rd
February 2007
Shortwood United Reserves put up a valiant display this weekend but it
was Albion who secured all 3 points to leap frog their Northern Senior League
opponents in the table. We took the lead mid way through the 1st period,
Shaun Tout returning from a long injury lay off opening the scoring from close
range. The visitors pressed hard in the 2nd half as they tried to restore
parity. However, Shaun Bennett sealed the points for us in the final
moments of the game neatly coveting pass the Wood's goalkeeper. Elsewhere
our 2nds lost 3-0 away to Cheltenham League Division 2 leaders
Woodmancote. Despite Craig Fairley hitting the post when the game was
locked at 0-0 additional chances were limited. The 3rd's drew with
Elmbridge Old Boys as both sides are trying hard to escape their current plight
against relegation. Finally our 4ths torrid season continued as Matchplay
Reeves played host to The Albion and ran out winners by 6 goals to 2.
28th
January 2007
The 4ths travelled to Upton St Leonards for a Sunday afternoon Stroud
Charities Cup fixture and were disappointingly defeated 2-1. Phil Cooke
opened the scoring for the Albion in the 1st period but we allowed Upton to equalise with some scrappy defending.
After a first half of few chances the 2nd period was largely dominated by us and we created numerous good chances that were wasted.
Again we were made to rue our missed opportunities as Upton went ahead after 60
minutes. With nothing to lose we pushed forward looking for the equaliser but a combination of poor finishing and no real run of the ball we failed to
equalise. In the final 5 minutes Dale Walker made a fine save from their striker
to keep the score line at 2-1.
27th January 2007
The 1st XI travelled to a resurgent Tetbury whose recent results had seen
them climb to mid table safety. Somehow the game finished 0-0 which was
not a true representation of the chances we created in comparison to our
hosts. Set pieces proved to be our greatest weapon with Dave Evans testing
the keeper twice with powerful close range headers. In the 2nd half the
home stopper made an exceptional save from a 35 yard thunderbolt from Lee
Randall. The 3rd XI travelled to Gaffers FC and were comfortably beaten
6-1, going 5-0 down inside the opening 30 minutes is always bit of a
struggle! Last but not least the 4ths suffered their biggest disappointment
of the season losing 1-0 at home to Gloucester Civil Service III. Although
the visitors were workmanlike they did not possess much of a danger however we let ourselves down
showing poor touches and a lack of passing ability. However once again we still showed great spirit and
resilience and had a couple of near misses. Their keeper also made one
exceptional save from an Alex Morgan effort. Phil Cooke in his first start for a while was the exception displaying good touch and link play with the
midfield. Another bonus was Ben Thompson's first start after swapping a rugby ball for a
football and should be a great asset for the fourth team. Civil scored the only goal
in the 48th minute and unfortunately for all our huff and puff we never really
possessed a threat to their goal.
20th January 2007
Due to the recent bad weather only the 4ths managed to play a fixture
this weekend away against highflying AC Royals. For our furthest trip this
season we arrived in good spirits but after less than 1 minute we lost possession on the edge of our box to go 1-0
down. Typically we responded immediately with Simon Jones equalising from a corner and then Sean O'Connor added a second to lead 2-1 at
half time. After an hour Olly Cove added a third and we looked comfortable
however we missed another couple of chances which turned out to be fatal.
With 10 minutes left Royals scored a 2nd and then with 2 minutes left they
equalised. In the 89th minute referee awarded a controversial penalty which Royals
converted to give the hosts a 4-3 victory.
13th
January 2007
The 3rd's took centre stage playing at home against
Tewkesbury Town in the County Cup Quarter Finals unfortunately a 4-0 defeat
ended our interest in the competition. Albion had a couple of decent
chances early in the game but ultimately paid the price for failing to convert
those opportunities. The other fixture of the day saw our 2nd XI lose 2-1 at
home to Star FC Reserves. Star took the lead in the 36th minute, a raking
through pass splitting our defence and despite Rich Prictor saving the initial effort
their striker made no mistake with his second chance. Disaster struck 1 minute
after the restart when Star made it 2-0 after some lacklustre defending.
Anthony Workman hit a scorching 18 yard volley to set up a frantic last 10
minutes however an equaliser was just not forthcoming.
6th
January 2007
Due to our pitch being unplayable it was agreed to switch our County Cup
Quarter Final tie to the Gala Club and the match proceeded despite heavy rain
and blustery conditions. Gala took the lead just before half time, Geraint
Davies controlled well before slotting past debutant keeper Rich Prictor.
Albion hit back in the 2nd period drawing level after an hour, top scorer Shaun
Meakin heading past the despairing dive of Andy Radford. On 73 minutes we
took the lead when substitute Shaun Bennett sprung the offside trap and neatly
converted. With nothing to lose Gala poured forward in search of an
equaliser and 3 minutes in to injury time Craig Martin notched to send the game
in to extra time. Gala now had the momentum and substitute Mike Rinaldi
gave them a 3-2 lead heading home at the far post. More drama followed as
Mark Mulraney scored in the 118th minute after Gala failed to clear Meakin's
corner. The match then went to penalties and Rich Driver missed the first
one for us. This turned out to be critical as the remaining 9 penalties
were all scored to give Gala a 5-4 victory. Overall a thoroughly
entertaining cup tie and credit must go to both sides who put on a decent
spectacle despite the conditions for a decent sized crowd. Both of Albions
other fixtures (2nds and 3rds) fell victim to the weather and will be rearranged
in due course.

December
2006
The 1st XI travelled to struggling Huntley for this festive fixture
however the game as abandoned at half time due to an unplayable pitch.
However the first half certainly had more than enough action which saw 2 red
cards and 2 goals. We opened the scoring after 19 minutes. Paul
Dominguez ball down the channel enabled Dan Moody to race through on goal and
unselfishly square for Anthony Keene to slot home. The game took a
dramatic turn when keeper Chris Skinner was penalised for a professional foul on
the prolific Marc Matthews. Skinner was shown a red card and to add insult
to injury Matthews scored from the resulting free kick to level the
scores. In the 38th minute Mark Mulraney was also shown red for the
visitors for picking up a second yellow card. After much deliberation at
the interval the correct decision was made to abandon the game in the interests
of the players safety. The only other fixture of the day saw our 4th XI
unlucky to lose 4-3 to runaway league leaders AFC Phoenix. To make matters
worse we led the game 2-0 and 3-1 before succumbing to a late winner for the
visitors.
23rd
December
2006
A 100% success rate this weekend as the 2nds and 4ths were the only teams
in action. The 2nd XI convincingly beat Bredon Reserves at home with goals
from Craig Fairley, Shaun Bennett and Kenny Howard. The star of the show
for the 4th XI was Leigh Worth who netted 4 times in a 5-3 victory over Kings
Reserves at Plock Court.
16th
December
2006
The 1st XI lost away to Tuffley Rovers 3-1 in a competitive
fixture. The hosts took the lead in the 18th minute after springing the
offside trap. Parity was restored after 29 minutes, Anthony Keene scoring
from close range after Meakin's corner was insufficiently cleared. Tuffley
made sure of all three points with two second half goals. Our 2nd XI were
beaten by a solid Moreton side who triumphed 3-0. The highlight of the
weekend was our 3rd XI who beat league leaders Whaddon 1-0. Finally our
4th XI were beaten by 5-2 away to Stroud Harriers.
9th
December
2006
After recent cup heroics the 1st XI secured 3 valuable league points with
a comfortable 2-0 victory over Cam Bulldogs. Anthony Keene opened the
scoring after 36 minutes coolly slotting home after neat build up play from Dan
Moody and Shaun Meakin. Again difficult conditions made it hard for either
side to play too much football and the result was put beyond doubt with 20
minutes remaining. Top scorer Meakin curling home a left footed effort
from 18 yards. The 2nd XI crashed out of the cup despite leading 3-1 with
5 minutes remaining. The finale saw us concede 3 sloppy goals which wiped
out earlier strikes from Craig Fairley, Warren Cole and Shaun Bennett.
2nd
December 2006
A tremendous weekend for the Albion with the 1st XI and 3rd XI
progressing to the 1/4 finals of the County Cup and the 2nds with a crushing
league victory. The 1st XI overcame Smiths Athletic in an exciting viewing
spectacle, Liam Mayo gave us the lead in the 58th minute firing home from a
scrambled corner. However Smiths hit back in the 69th minute breaking down
the flank and a neat finish at the far post. Almost immediately Albion
took the lead once more through Rich Driver who hooked in a close range effort
after Rob Mahon's cross was not cleared by the visitors defence. With 1
minute of the fixture remaining, goalkeeper Chris Skinner misread Smiths corner
and their towering centre half headed home to send the game into extra
time. Chances were few and far between until substitute Shaun Meakin dramatically
drove home a left footed effort in the 119th minute to send the Albion
through. The thirds also endured a dramatic cup game and it was
player/manager Josie who curled home the winning penalty to register a fine
victory over local foes Upton St Leonards. Finally in a league fixture our
second XI hammered Bourton Rovers Reserves 8-1 with goals from Mike Burford (2),
Shaun Bennett, Craig Fairley (2), Kenny Howard (2) and Warren Cole.
25th
November
2006
On a surface more akin for mud wrestling Jamie Hammond stole the show for
Bishops Cleeve Reserves as he scored five goals in their 6-2 victory.
Consolation goals from Gloucester City's Lee Randall and substitute Rich Driver
were the only highlights of a drab afternoons football. The pattern
continued throughout the club as we failed to register a single point across all
four sides. Our 2nds suffered a disappointing 4-3 reversal at home to
Cheltenham Saracens III, the thirds also played Cheltenham Saracens (4ths) and
were defeated 7-4. Finally the 4ths lost 2-1 to Eastcombe Reserves as
their difficult start to the season continued.
18th
November
2006
A trip to Bourton is not the ideal destination when you are missing 9
first team players however the 1st XI defied the odds to pick up a valuable
point. The hosts opened the scoring in 1st half injury time, Matt Winter's
initial effort skewed wide but after the ball eventually found it's way back in
to our penalty area his second crept in. A spirited second half
performance saw us draw parity in the 79th minute. A corner kick enabled
us to send up some height from the defence and it was Dave Evans flick on which
was steered home by Liam Mayo for a deserved 1-1 draw. The 2nd XI claimed
all 3 points away at Hi-Tech Rangers, Craig Parkes lashing home a 20 yard effort
which was worthy of winning any fixture. Albion 3rd XI were defeated 4-2
by Naunton Park Reserves, Dave McChristie appearing on the score sheet for the
2nd time this season. Finally the 4th XI's tough start to the season
showed no signs of ceasing as they were defeated 3-0 against Matchplay Reeves
who are chasing for the league title.
11th
November
2006
Brockworth Albion 1st XI experienced consecutive defeats
for the first time this season losing 2-0 at home to Longlevens. On a
brighter note the 2nd XI impressed with a 4-0 victory hosting Gala Wilton
Reserves. Joe Breach opened the scoring in 1st half injury time lashing
home an unstoppable 18 yard strike. Further goals followed in the second
period from Craig Fairley, Breach and Alex Morgan completing the rout.
Both the 3rds and 4ths suffered defeats against good sides losing 3-1 and 4-0
respectively, Steve Stennett scoring the consolation goal for Albion 3rd's.
4th
November 2006
A depleted 1st XI suffered their heaviest defeat of the
season losing 4-1 at Lydbrook Athletic, Mark Temple notching a consolation
strike for the Albion. The 2nd XI also went down losing 2-1 at home to
Whiteshill, Craig Fairley gave us an 8th minute lead and everything looked
geared towards a home victory. However, key injuries to Kenny Howard and
Nick Delves enabled Whiteshill to take control of the game scoring in the 53rd
and 72nd minutes of the tie. Finally the 3rd XI gained a point in the
Cheltenham League drawing 1-1 at home with Gloucester Civil Service.
28th
October 2006
Last weeks disappointing results were quickly erased after
all 3 sides who were in action this weekend chalked up excellent
victories. The 1st XI progressed to the last 16 of the Senior Amateur Cup
with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Cirencester United Reserves. Chris
Skinner gave Albion the lead in the 39th minute, powerfully heading home Mark
Temples pinpoint cross. Rich Drivers neat turn and strike sealed the win
after an hour. Additional pluses were the first appearances of the season
for Temple and Shaun Tout who brought some vital experience to a young line
up. Kenny Howard scored a 30 yard screamer as the 2nds beat Bredon
Reserves on their travels, Joe Breach ensured we returned with all 3 points with
a 2nd half header. Finally the 3rds also made progress in to the next
round of the County Cup with a tremendous 4-2 victory at Coleford. Steve
Stennett was the star of the show scoring a hat-trick and Dave McChristie
notched his first of the season with a long range header.
21st
October 2006
Huge disappointment for the club as a whole today with all
4 sides suffering league defeats for the first time this season. The 1st
XI lost 3-0 away at Brimscombe and Thrupp despite having numerous chances to taking
the lead in the first half. Rich Driver heading against the post in the
37th minute was the closest either side came to breaking the 1st half
deadlock. Andy Boot effectively won the game on his own for the hosts with
a fine second period hat-trick. The 2nd XI lost 4-2 at home to Northleach
Town our goals coming courtesy of an own goal and a Craig Fairley effort.
The
3rds and 4ths lost 3-0 and 3-1 respectively.

October 2006
The 1st XI returned to the Northern Senior summit with a
hard fought victory over early season strugglers Viney St Swithins. Chris
Skinner opened the scoring heading home a Paul Dominguez cross in the 20th
minute. However, Viney's in form striker Ian Drummond thumped home an 18
yard screamer in the 44th minute to ensure the sides were level at the
break. A scrappy 2nd period was to follow, top scorer Meakin bundling home
the winner from a Shaun Price corner with half an hour remaining. Our 2nd
XI produced a sterling performance to progress in the cup overturning Dowty
Dynamos 6-1, goals flowed from Craig Fairley (3), Shaun Bennett, Anthony Keene
and an own goal. Not to be outdone the 3rd XI also recorded a victory in
the cup winning 2-1. Two late goals from Joe Lyons keeping us in the hat
for the next round. Unfortunately the 4th's could not make it a clean
sweep for the Albion, suffering a 3-1 defeat at home in the league.
7th
October 2006
The 1st XI succumbed to their first league defeat of the
season against a spirited Shortwood United side away at Meadowbank.
Despite having the better chances in the 1st half, notably Shaun Meakin's fine
strike which was expertly tipped on to the crossbar, the visitors trailed 1-0 at
the interval. Two further goals inside the first 20 minutes of the restart
ensured the hosts leapfrogged us into 2nd place in the table. Meakin's
late consolation effort completed the score line culminating in a 3-1
defeat. Brockworth's inept performance was well matched by refereeing
incompetence that truly had to be witnessed to be believed. 2 yellow
cards, 1 red card, playing advantage for offside, a corner for the ball hitting
the post and rebounding 2 yards back in to play, refusal to speak with players,
derogatory remarks to players, informing players 5 minutes remaining then
blowing the final whistle within 30 seconds.....I cannot be bothered to write
anymore about such an embarrassing performance by the official which even the
home players and spectators could not comprehend. The only other fixture
of the day saw our 3rd XI beaten 1-0 at home to King's reserves in a well
contested tight affair.

Not only top of the league but also through to the next
round of the Senior
Amateur Cup with the 1st XI beat Viney St Swithins 3-1. Despite going behind
to a 34th minute penalty, David Evans restored parity heading home a minute
before the break. Albion took the lead in the 67th minute through a Chris
Skinner penalty, the initial offence committed by ex Brockworth player Graham
Moore. In the final few minutes Michael Evans cross-come-shot found the
top corner of the hosts goal. The 3rds also progressed to the next round
of the cup winning 2-0, both goals courtesy of Ken Howard making a welcome
comeback from an injury nightmare. High flying Woodmancote defeated the
2nds in a league match 6-2.
23rd
September 2006
Three second half goals from Liam Mayo, Chris
Skinner and Paul Dominguez gave Brockworth 1st XI all 3 points against Tetbury
Town. Trailing 1-0 at the break Albion responded well in the 2nd half,
Skinner also had a penalty saved by the visitors keeper. Elsewhere the
4ths picked up their first league win of the season winning 3-2 however the 2nds
and 3rds lost 4-3 and 4-1 respectively.

The 1st XI continued their impressive
unbeaten start to the season beating Cheltenham Civil Service 3-2. Goals
from Dan Moody and Chris Skinner (2) assuring the 3 points - only 2 goals in
the last 3 minutes for Service gave the score line a closer feel. The 3rds
also kept up their 100% record with their 2nd win. Defeats for the 2nds
and 4ths, 3-0 and 6-0 respectively completed the weekends action.

A mixed bag of results for Albion this
weekend which saw 1 win, 2 draws and a defeat. Broadwell visited
Churchdown but were unable to break down a resilient 1st XI and the spoils
shared.

Another excellent spirited performance gave
Albion's 1st XI all 3 points against a good Kingswood side. Meakin's
deflected effort mid-way through the first period was enough to settle the game.
The opening fixtures of the
Cheltenham League saw our 2nd's notch up a tremendous 7-1 victory over
Tewkesbury YMCA. A hat-trick from Driver was the highlight of a great all
round team performance.
26th August 2006
Brockworth opened their Northern Senior
League campaign with a fine 3-1 victory over Huntley, goals from Shaun Meakin
(2) and Rob Mahon enough to secure a well earned victory.
